Ahead of the final performance date for Caroline, or Change, which is now less than two weeks away, we sat down with one of the show's stars, Naana Agyei-Ampadu, for an exclusive Q&A. The Ghana-born British actress trained in acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama and has previously starred as Juliet in Measure for Measure at Shakespeare's Globe, Avenue Q, The Frontline and in Been So Long, the latter of which earned her an Evening Standard Award nomination. 

Caroline, or Change is now playing at the Playhouse Theatre until 2 March 2019.

Olivier Award-winning musical, Caroline, Or Change made its West End transfer to the Playhouse Theatre back in November after successful runs in Chichester and Hampstead. This hit musical is booking until 6 April 2019 and has already accumulated a mass of five-star reviews and praise. Here we’ve compiled five reasons on why it really is that good.

It's now 'Caroline or bust' as the Chichester Festival Theatre's Caroline, or Change officially announces today its final West End performance date. The critically acclaimed musical by award-winning playwright and author of Angels in America Tony Kushner is now playing at the Playhouse Theatre until early March.

Why have I never heard of this musical spectacular? With Caroline, or Change set in Louisiana in November 1963, we witness an African-American maid named Caroline (Sharon D. Clarke) cook and clean for the Gellmans whilst befriending and comforting the son, Noah Gellman, a recently bereaved boy from a Jewish family. Where she works serves a good metaphor for her social position, as well as her emotional state.

Caroline, or Change has an impressive pedigree, moving from rave reviews in Chichester and Hampstead to the buzzing Thames-side Playhouse Theatre in London. I have to confess, I struggled at first to work out what was going on this musical and where the story was going. I’m not sure what I expected, but faced with a kitchen of singing white goods and an extremely vocal radio, I felt I needed to concentrate hard to make sense of this show.

Casting has been announced for the West End transfer of Caroline, or Change, joining Olivier-Award-winning actress Sharon D Clarke, who will be reprising her role as Caroline Thibodeaux from the Chichester Festival and Hampstead Theatre productions. Caroline, or Change premieres at the Playhouse Theatre on 20 November 2018.
